BrightFarms Selects EnergyWatch as their Energy & Sustainability Management Solution
BrightFarms announces that they have chosen EnergyWatch’s market-leading energy and sustainability management software to support a new set of BrightFarms sustainability initiatives launched in 2020.
Irvington, New York — July 2020— Recognizing the criticality of measuring and managing energy and sustainability factors for indoor agriculture, BrightFarms has selected EnergyWatch LLC for utility data management and automation.
Sustainability is a core component of BrightFarms’ founding objectives. The company aims to reduce the environmental footprint of a major component of the US food supply chain. Its produce is sustainably grown from the roots up, using approximately 80 percent less water, 90 percent less land, and 95 percent less shipping fuel than soil-grown competitors.
More recently, BrightFarms has embarked on a series of initiatives to make that footprint even smaller by measuring and reducing energy and water usage and waste streams, exploring alternative growing strata and packaging materials, and deepening its commitment to recycling and reuse. EnergyWatch will help to establish baselines for resource use, then measure, track and report BrightFarms progress over time.
As a leading energy management software as a service provider, EnergyWatch will complement BrightFarm’s robust sustainability program with actionable analytics based on audited data. Through EnergyWatch’s WatchWire platform, BrightFarms will be able to proactively manage utilities, benchmark facilities, and conduct measurement and verification of energy efficiency project savings.
“BrightFarms evaluated several resource monitoring tools,” said Sean O’Neill, BrightFarms Project Developer and Manager of Sustainability Projects. “We selected EnergyWatch for its ease of use, flexibility, and most of all its reputation for technical support and collaboration.”
EnergyWatch’s Managing Director Andy Anderson espoused “We’re excited about this opportunity to help a fellow sustainably-focused company in scalably managing their energy, water, and waste data as they grow.
BrightFarms grows local produce, nationwide. BrightFarms finances, builds, and operates local greenhouse farms in partnership with supermarkets, cities, capital sources, and vendors, enabling it to quickly and efficiently eliminate time, distance, and costs from the food supply chain. BrightFarms’ growing methods, a model for the future of scalable, sustainable local farming, use far less energy, land, and water than long distance, centralized, and field-grown agriculture. Fast Company recognizes BrightFarms as “One of World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies” and one of the “Top 10 Most Innovative Companies in Food” in the world.
